The country of Slovenia, which officially is called the Republic of Slovenia, is a South-Central European country which is bordered by Austria on the North, Hungary on the Northeast, Croatia on the East and the South, the Adriatic Sea on the Southeast, and Italy on the West. Ljubjana is the capital city.

During the history of Slovenia, the country has been ruled by and has been a part of 13 different nations. Beginning with the Roman Empire, Slovenia has experienced numerous civil, national, and international wars. The country has gained independence numerous times, and has had this right taken away on an equal amount of occasions. Slovenia recently regained independence in 1991, when it broke free of the rulership of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Since 1991, Slovenia has moved forward in its quest for a economically prosperous society. It retains membership in 6 political and international organizations, including the European Union.
