MALTA
Malta, which is also known as the Republic of Malta, is a densely populated yet small micro state located in the Mediterranean Sea of Southern Europe. The country is comprised of seven islands, all within one archipelago. Because of its geographical location, Malta enjoys a temperate, Mediterranean climate .
Because Malta is located at a strategic entry point for military, political, and trade endeavors, it has been held in high esteem throughout history. In fact, one of the Maltan Islands is where St. Paul landed, according to the Bible. A strong Roman Catholic influence also ingrained the legacy of Christianity into the region.
The official languages of Malta are English and Maltese, however, because of the Catholic influences, Italian is also a strong language on the islands. Malta declared independence in 1964, and joined the European Union in 2004.
