HUNGARY

Hungary, which is also referred to as the Republic of Hungary, is located in Central Europe in the Carpathian Basin. The country is landlocked and bordered by the countries of Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Ukraine, Slovakia, and Austria. Budapest is the capital of Hungary. Hungary is a member in the European Union, NATO, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, or OECD. Hungarian is the official language of Hungary, and is recognized as an official language in the European Union.

The culture of Hungary was primarily formed by Celtic influences after 450 BC, and by Roman rule from 9 BC to the 4th century. In the 9th century, Hungary began to assert itself as a distinct, individualistic nation, establishing the Kingdom of Hungary. For 946 years Hungary continued to prosper with little outside influences. Then in 1947 the Communist party intervened. After the fall of Communism, Hungary became an economy with high-income, a leader in economics, a developing country, and a popular tourist attraction.
