GREECE

Greece, which is also known as the Hellenic Republic, is located in the Southeastern portion of Europe, at the Southern tip of the Balkan Peninsula. The borders of Greece are defined by Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Albania on the North, Turkey on the East, On the Southern and Eastern sides of Greece, the Aegean Sea defines the borders, while the Western side of the country is bordered by the Ionian Sea. Numerous islands within the Eastern portion of the Mediterranean basin are included in the Greece territories.

Historically and culturally speaking, Greece is credited as the birthplace of Western civilization. It was the first to introduce dramatic productions, including both comedy and tragedy, with both being presented simultaneously in some cases. It influenced the heritage of the Ottoman, Byzantine, Roman, and Greek Empires. Western mathematical and scientific principles, political science, historiography and literature, the Olympic Games, Western philosophy, and democracy are all associated with Greece.
