BOSNIA and HERZEGOVINA

Although Bosnia and Herzegovina is officially maintained and unified as one region, there are two distinct governing entities: the Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A third entity, District Brcko, acts as a de facto governing body.

Bosnia and Herzegovina were once a part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. During the Yugoslav wars, which occurred during the 1990's, Bosnia and Herzegovina fought for the right to independence. Today, the country is a federal democratic republic, whose economy is evolving into a modern, market-oriented system. It anticipates acceptance into NATO and the European Union.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is the home of three separate ethnic groups, or "constituent peoples". These groups include the Croats, the Serbs, and the Bosniaks. In other countries, citizen of the region is commonly referred to as a Bosnian, regardless of their ethnic origins. Within the country, the distinction between Herzegovinian and Bosnian individuals is determined by region rather than by ethnicity.

As Europe is constantly progressing, each of their countries follow in suit. People are now more exposed to different cultures and technologies. In 2002, the number of web users went up by 2% as they reached 100,000 users. During 2006, the number of web users increased tremendously from a hundred users to 806,400 users. In the present, Bosnia is using the web for the many businesses and industries they have in the country. In fact their telecommunications is slowly making good progress towards an establishment of an independent national regulatory body for the telecom side. And all these improvements are brought about by their easy access to the web which allows communication to move smoother and faster. Bosnia has become internet savvy, as they become more exposed to technology; they are starting to make the use of many websites for their businesses and industries. Some of the popular websites in Bosnia would be http://www.usaid.ba and http://www.bhtelecom.ba. As technology will persist to be a part of everyday life, Bosnia can be expected to grow in terms of technology especially with the web.
